An Inconvinient Truth

To what extent do you think this was deserved? Having watched this film in
class did you feel that your opinion (or perhaps the opinion of others) to the
issue of climate change could be positively influenced?
What did you think of this film? Was it effective?

I think Al Gore receiving the Nobel Peace Prize award was well deserved as he demonstrated and put across clearly the extent to which climate change and global warming are affecting the world. He also stresses what will happen if this continues.

Al Gore portrays the message of climate change and global warming effectively although throughout the film he kept referring to his own life experiences, which I found irrelevant. He talked a lot about himself, taking the focus off of the main issue rather than focusing on ways to change how people live.

By using video clips and images it made the presentation much more interesting and gave a better understanding of the issues being stated. After watching this film I think people will be much more aware of climate change and this will encourage them to become more environmental friendly and take what they have been shown into consideration. I think the views people have of climate change will have been influenced.

I personally have become much more aware of the environmental changes and the effects global warming and climate change are having upon the earth. The interesting facts caught my attention and made me stop and think of things that I do which contribute to the environment. Watching this has made me consider how sustainable I could be.

Will I change? I really have no idea. Only time will tell!

What actions (in theory) undertake that would improve the 'sustainability' of your lifestyle? What might be preventing you from doing these?

At the moment I would say I am not that sustainable but getting better. As I have recently stopped driving I tend to walk a lot more which is more sustainable, but before I used to drive everywhere which I suppose is not good for the environment as the fuel emissions are higher. Considering this I could improve by investing in a bike and cycling but it is just easier to drive everywhere its less hassle!

I try to turn lights off around the house when I’m not using them but I am the kind of person that goes in and out of rooms leaving things switched on. I know this is so unsustainable but it has become a habit of mine. Now I have my own house I will be definitely aiming to reduce the electricity I use because I am responsible for my own bills so will be more financially aware of the consequences of my actions.

As I am quite a busy person I don’t tend to take any notice of the unsustainable things I do or use so for me to change now it will be a challenge!!

I have realised that through what I have mentioned I am very unsustainable! I think I will now be a bit more aware and TRY to improve the sustainability of my lifestyle.
